OSPF virtual link is a very important configuration trick, in this article we will look how to configure OSPF virtual link with a little example. After we will see it deeply too.
When we are configuring OSPF , we all know that all areas must be connected with Area 0. That means we can’t configure OSPF for a design above. But we are having physical diffuculties, we have a temporariy solution : OSPF Virtual Link !
On a design like this , Router 3 and Router 4 can’t have the network that is connected to Router 2’s E0 interface. To fix this issue, we should configure virtual link between Router – 2 and Router – 3.
R3(config)# router ospf 1 R3(config-router)#area 1 virtual-link 2.2.2.2 R2(config)# router ospf 1 area 1 virtual-link 3.3.3.3 // Router - ID of its neighbor //
OSPF virtual link configuration can be verified with the command below. You can’t see it on neighbor table :
R3#show ip ospf virtual-links
